Update of Classifications

GNAS have recently updated the Classification tables. There is, as far as I can see, no change to the Recurve tables but there are major changes to the Compound and Longbow tables. There is also the addition of a Barebow classification table. I have completed the Ladies and Gents tables for Recurve, Compound, Longbow and Barebow, but am still working on the junior tables.

Clash of dates

Due to a clash of dates with the Cheshire Archery AGM, our Club Championships and Knockout fianl will now be shot on March 9th. This years knockout finalists are Steve Fitzsimmons and Laurence Lovell.

A really hot February

Well maybe not weather wise but certainly in the club record stakes. No fewer than 6 club records were broken, 5 of them on the same date and 4 of them at the same venue (Deeside). Congratulations to:

9 April 2007 - 26th Annual Bunny Shoot

The 26th annual Bunny Shoot held at the Corus club on Monday 9th April was well attended and the weather, although cool, remained dry all day.

Congratulations to Richard Jones - Junior Gents prize, Caroline Williams - 2nd Lady Recurve, Chris Eccles - 2nd Gent Longbow and Sheila Jones for killing the 'bunny' although I don't think Cathrine will be too pleased about it! Thanks to all at Corus Archery Club for a great day.

30 July 2006 - Rhys breaks an arrow!

Now here's a very happy chappie, although the same can't be said for his dad. Rhys Jones scored a direct hit on his own arrow from 60yds and on a blank boss. Get your wallet out dad, I don't think this is going to be the last we see of young Rhys.

21 May 2006 - 7th Annual Longbow Tournament

42 archers braved rain and gusting winds at Cross Lane on Sunday 21st May as the 7th annual Longbow Tournament got underway. Thanks to Wirral Archers who made the day as enjoyable as they could, providing hot drinks and an excellent lunch.

After a very wet Short Windsor, the winning Gent was Angus Reynolds from North Cheshire and the winning lady was Viv Guthrie fron Neston. Our own Vaughan and Caroline Williams each took the Gentlemen Patron's hidden score.

20 May 2006 - John Gardner and Carol Bradbury tie the knot
John and Carol under the arch of longbows provided by Caldy Bowmen

Eleven archers met at Wallasey Town Hall on Saturday morning to make a lovely longbow arch for Carol and John to walk through. We've got some great photos and will put some on the website - and Caroline has sent a press release and photo to both local papers, and to Archery UK.

Thanks to all who contibuted towards the wedding gift. We had an oval platter designed with the club badge and got most people to sign it. We were also able to present Carol and John with £150 as a wedding gift , on condition that they spent it on a special treat for themselves.

More photographs can be found under News / Photograhs on the menu.

12 January 2006

I am sorry to be the bearer of bad news but I am writing to say that sadly the County Treasurer, Jerry Nicholson, died on Monday of this week.

I know some of you will already have heard this but I am trying to alert as many people as possible as, quite apart from all losing a friend and fellow archer, on a practical level we need to divert any new GNAS affiliation forms that club secretaries might be in the process of sending in.

If you are a club secretary and you do need to send in affiliation forms could I ask that, for the time being, you please send them to me. I'm not sure how quickly I will be able to deal with these but at least we can avoid burdening Jerry's wife with them at this sad time.

Many thanks and best regards
Ann Shepherd
Hon. Sec.

18 December 2005 - Annual Fun Shoot

Many thanks to Paul for organising this years fun shoot. I am sure that everybody is now much clearer on the rules of Archery Cricket.

I have to say, it was a great event, and that is not just because I was on the winning team, I would like to take this opportunity to wish you, and yours, a very merry Christmas and a happy and prosperous New Year. See you all on 8th January 2006.

Other faces that can be recognised are our very own John Moly, Colonel Bunny, Bob Clough, Peter Morris, Marcia Trueman and Joan Mackinder.

30 August 2005 - Website moved

Because of space restrictions, the website has had to be moved to a new server, the address will remain www.caldybowmen.org but there is more available space to play with. I have removed the forum from the site as it was not getting used and was taking up valuable disk space. In its place, I am going to install a photo gallery that can be viewed by everyone (including MAC users), and I am hoping that you will be able to upload and display your own photographs in pre-prepared albums. The 3D Gallery will remain as an alternative and I will update it with your photos. My thanks go to Inside Track for allowing me continued use of their View-IT! software.

If anyone would like an email address yourname@caldybowmen.org, please let me know and I will set it up for you, I can even have it forwarded to your regular email account if you already have one.

Once again, if any of you have any suggestions for improving or adding features to this site, or would like to write an article or newspiece for inclusion then please send me an email
